The sun peeked over the green hills to wake up Farmer Fred. He put on his red plaid shirt and yellow straw hat with a big smile. It was time to start a very busy day on the farm!

First, Farmer Fred and Barnaby the Dog went to the big red barn. The hungry cows were waiting for their breakfast. Fred tossed golden hay into their feeders while Barnaby barked a happy morning greeting to them.

Next, they visited the garden to prepare the soil for new seeds. Farmer Fred used a heavy iron shovel to turn the dark, crumbly earth. Barnaby helped by digging small holes with his paws in the soft dirt.

Farmer Fred pulled small seeds from his overall pockets and tucked them into the ground. He told Barnaby that every plant needs a cozy bed to grow. They worked together until the long rows were all finished.

The sun grew hot, so Fred pulled out a long green hose. He sprayed a gentle mist of water over the thirsty seeds. Barnaby tried to catch the sparkling water drops in his mouth and jumped around.

Farmer Fred explained that plants also need to be safe from sneaky weeds. He spent the afternoon pulling up prickly grass that tried to steal the water. It was hard work, but Fred never stopped whistling.

Weeks passed by and the tiny seeds grew into tall, green stalks. Farmer Fred checked the leaves every single day to make sure they were healthy. Barnaby kept the hungry crows away by running through the fields.

Finally, the vegetables were big, bright, and ready to be picked. Farmer Fred filled his wooden crates with orange carrots and red tomatoes. Barnaby balanced a small basket in his mouth to help his best friend.

At the end of the day, they took the fresh food to the market in town. Everyone cheered for the delicious vegetables that Farmer Fred grew. He wiped his brow and felt very proud of his hard work.

And from that day on, the neighbors knew exactly how much love goes into farming. Farmer Fred and Barnaby walked home under the stars, ready to rest. Finally, the farm was quiet and everyone was full.
