The Garden Treasure Hunt
Zuri, Malik, and Aunt Asha use a hand-drawn picture map to navigate their neighborhood to discover a secret community garden.

The morning sun warms the sidewalk as Aunt Asha hands us a special map. It has no words, just beautiful drawings of our neighborhood. Zuri bounces on her toes with excitement. We are going on a treasure hunt to find the hidden community garden. Today, we are the explorers of our own street.

Look, the map shows a big red fire hydrant right near the start. We walk past the houses until we find it standing tall. Malik points to the paper. Should we turn left or right? Zuri checks the drawing. The path on the paper curves to the right, toward the corner store.

We turn right at the corner, keeping our eyes peeled for the next landmark. A blue mailbox sits by the curb, just like the one drawn on our map. We are getting closer! The paper shows a long path ahead. We decide to walk together, keeping the mailbox on our left side.

Zuri notices a tall oak tree that looks like the scribble on the map. It is far away, but we can see its leafy branches swaying. We plan our route to walk toward the tree. Malik says we should stay on the sidewalk to keep our path nice and straight today.

We reach the oak tree and stop to check the map again. There is a drawing of a park bench nearby. Zuri spins around, looking for it. There it is, tucked near the bushes! We are following the map perfectly. The treasure hunt is getting more exciting with every single step we take.

Malik traces a line on the paper with his finger. We need to go left at the next crossing. It feels like a big puzzle. Aunt Asha encourages us to lead the way. We march forward, counting our steps to stay on track. The neighborhood feels like a giant, friendly game board.

We pass a colorful mural painted on a brick wall. The map shows this wall as a bright shape. We are definitely going the right way. Zuri dances a little jig. She is so happy that we are working as a team to find the secret spot hidden in our neighborhood.

The map shows a small gate just ahead. It is near the end of our journey. We walk slowly, looking at the houses. Everything is quiet and peaceful. Zuri spots a wooden fence with a gate that matches our drawing exactly. We have found the path to the garden at last!

Page 9
We push the gate open and step inside. It is beautiful! Flowers bloom everywhere, and the smell of fresh soil is sweet. The map led us to a wonderful place full of life. Malik smiles, proud of how we read the map together. We really did find the hidden treasure today.

We sit on a wooden bench in the garden, feeling happy and tired. The map is tucked safely away. We learned how to find our way by looking at shapes and landmarks. It was a grand adventure. Zuri, Malik, and Aunt Asha enjoy the quiet beauty of our special community garden.
